LIVE VIETNAMESE

SURVIVAL VIETNAMESE COURSE (6 hours)

The course is desired to help you not only survive but also better experience your time in Vietnam. After 6 hours, you will be able to handle simple interactions in Vietnamese with the locals including:

  • Introducing yourself with basic personal information
  • Expressing yourself (I like, I want …; It’s pretty; …) with typically used verbs, adjectives, name of objects as well as useful phrases and sentences
  • Ordering foods and drinks; Shopping; Asking and giving directions
  • Making a friendly suggestion/ request/ invitation

TALK VIETNAMESE (36 hours)

Talk Vietnamese will provide you with the language that you need for daily communication in Vietnamese. The course focuses on practical Vietnamese of informal and friendly form/ manner which helps you get ready to talk in Vietnamese with the locals around you. With the content and the method of teaching of Talk Vietnamese, you will immediately be able to handle basic conversations with confidence as a successful start of your journey “Talk Vietnamese” and enjoy your ability of conversing in Vietnamese naturally with the locals on the following aspects:

  • Greetings and give personal information (name, age, nationality, hometown, occupation, residence)
  • Ordering in a restaurant
  • Experiences (Have you had phở? Have you been to Hạ Long?)
  • Negotiating the price
  • Asking for & giving directions
  • Places & means of transportation

TALK BUSINESS VIETNAMESE (40 hours) - MAXIMIZE YOUR IMPACT IN THE OFFICE

Students who completed the Getting Started are eligible for the course. The content covers the topics below:

  • Business greetings
  • Meeting and discussing with business partners
  • Making invitations to business partners
  • Making appointments and conducting meetings
  • Task assignment and result checking
  • Chit chat in the office

Upon completion, this course gives you essential vocabulary and functions of communication for the workplace and helps you communicate effectively in office environment with your Vietnamese staff and your business partners.

VIETNAMESE “IN AND OUT” – AUTHENTIC CLIPS (36 hours)

Learning Vietnamese faster with real contexts, real situations, and real communication including:

  • Catching a xe ôm or taxi and communicating with drivers
  • Bargaining when shopping
  • Asking for information, places & directions
  • Describing and expressing ideas about things and persons
  • Dating with a Vietnamese partner
  • Communicating with doctors/ pharmacists for symptoms and prescriptions
  • Making calls and booking restaurants/ hotels

With our new innovative approach teaching method and unique studying resources developed by VLS, you will not only be able to immediately apply and respond in every aspect of daily settings but also speak Vietnamese naturally and confidently in this community.

 

GETTING STARTED (40 hours)

This is a streamlined and focused course designed to produce maximum functional fluency in a short time period. The course is taught with strong emphasis placed on listening and speaking at the beginning. Course topics and vocabulary have been carefully complied to provide you with the language patterns that you will need to successfully “survive” everyday situations while living, working and traveling in Vietnam.

This beginning-level course helps you achieve a solid foundation not only in conversational Vietnamese but also in basic Vietnamese in terms of phonetics, grammar and structures for your further Vietnamese language studies. The course textbook is comprised of 10 lessons, focusing on these diverse content areas:

  • Self introductions
  • Ordering in a restaurant
  • Asking and giving information
  • Bargaining when shopping
  • Stating about sickness
  • Time & daily activities

MOVING FORWARD (120 hours)

Continues to help students improve conversational skills and achieve functional fluency in daily communication. Course units are also sequenced to deal with functional language patterns and vocabulary that students will typically use in situations encountered on a daily basis in Vietnam.

However, you are exposed to more developed conversations with very natural Vietnamese which is strongly taught in this course. Teaching pronunciation continues to be emphasized as an important segment of the curriculum.

INTERMEDIATE VIETNAMESE (240 hours)

Students continue to develop higher proficiency in oral and written Vietnamese, and will be expected to conduct class primarily in Vietnamese. Every course has a multilayered, topic-based syllabus which includes thorough and comprehensive work for improving students’ language skills by using authentic materials, sources, and native environment. At this level, students will begin to encounter authentic materials in the classroom (Vietnamese news briefs, legends and folktales, idiomatic sayings...). Students’ knowledge of Vietnamese grammar will be strengthened. In the course, you are required to practice writing small essays. Reading and listening comprehension, discussion and oral presentation are also the basic segments of the curriculum.

 

ADVANCED VIETNAMESE (160 hours)

The advanced program aims to enhance your Vietnamese competency to advanced level. Every course continues to have a multilayered, topic-based syllabus which includes thorough and comprehensive work for improving students’ language skills by using authentic materials, sources, and native environment. Students will read, listen and discuss selections from local newspapers, TV news, documentary films, and journals and modified literary excerpts. Expository writing will also be required. The lesson units can be based around up-to-date topics of the student’s needs and interests. Students will learn more about the native country, people, culture, history, economy, politics, society and dialects.
