Nhân dịp Tết Nhâm Thìn, VLS tổ chức các hoạt động ngôn ngữ để sinh viên tìm hiểu về Tết cổ truyền Việt Nam.

On the occasion of Tết of Dragon, Vietnamese Language Studies Saigon has offerred immersion language activities for all of the students to get more understanding about Vietnamese traditional Tết.

1: Lời chúc trao nhau (Exchange wishes)

Giáo viên dạy cho sinh viên các câu chúc Tết ở trong lớp. Mỗi sinh viên viết lời chúc mà mình thích lên một tấm thiệp Tết do VLS chuẩn bị rồi treo lên cây đào hay cây mai, và lấy một tấm thiệp cho mình do sinh viên khác viết đã được treo trên cây. Cứ như thế, các sinh viên chưa quen biết nhau sẽ trao đổi với nhau những lời chúc năm mới tốt đẹp.

All of the students have learned about Tet wishes and how to give the wish in an appropriate manner. Each of the students wrote the preferred wish on a card provided by VLS, then hung it on the blossom branch of peach or apricot and picked a card written by others. Everybody has enjoyed exchanging the nice wishes of each other for the new year.

2: Ô chữ mùa xuân (dành cho sinh viên ở trình độ Trung cấp và Nâng cao)

Spring Crossword (for Intermediate and Advanced students)

Các sinh viên nhận đề bài, sau đó ra ngoài tiếp xúc, hỏi chuyện người Việt Nam để tìm đáp án cho các câu hỏi để tìm ra ô chữ của đề bài. Nhiều sinh viên đã tìm ra được ô chữ là “TẾT CON RỒNG” và đã nhận được lì xì từ cô hiệu trưởng Võ Thị Thanh Bình.

Without teachers’ help, the students had to go out to interact with the locals about the questions given in the sheet to get the answers so that they could find out the crossword themselves. Many have come back to VLS office with the right crossword which is “TẾT CON RỒNG”, and received lucky money from Ms. Võ Thị Thanh Bình, VLS’ director.

3: Đố vui về Tết Việt cổ truyền (dành cho sinh viên ở trình độ Trung cấp và Nâng cao)

Quiz about customs of traditional Tết for Intermediate and Advanced students

Các sinh viên nhận câu hỏi trắc nghiệm, rồi đi ra ngoài, trao đổi với người Việt để tự tìm câu trả lời. Các sinh viên ở các trình độ cao đã hoàn thành bài đố vui và đã được nhận tiền lì xì may mắn cho năm mới.

Having the quiz, the students were eager to go out to discuss with the locals about each question to choose the best answer in the multiple choice. Many have successfully completed the quiz and got lucky money.

4. Mâm Ngũ Quả & Bánh chưng/ Bánh Tét & Mứt

VLS has displayed essential Tết traditional fruits and food including a tray of five fruits, sticky rice cakes and Tết jams. The students have found it interesting to know the hidden meaning of each fruit in the tray and the history of Bánh chưng (square sticky rice cake), which symbolized the earth during Hung Kings over 4 thousand years ago.
